Cheap Entertainment

Kids are resourceful.  At least if they are given space to be.  I often find myself struggling to allow time and space for creative resourcefulness.  At the first signal of "boredom" in my children, I feel obligated to get involved, as if my job is to entertain.  But I don't think my primary job IS to entertain.  I am beginning to see that what I am supposed to provide is time and opportunity for my kids to entertain themselves.  Finding just how much time and just how much opportunity my kids need for optimal resourcefulness development is proving to be the challenge.
Today however, Hudson seemed to strike his own balance, and it was a lovely thing to behold.  In fact, his diligence and creativity was both hilarious and intriguing.   For about an hour and a half, while Uncle and Auntie were touring Pearl Harbor, brother was at school, sissy was sleeping and mom was catching up on housework, Hudson decorated Benny... the dog.  Benny was complete with a third eye, bracelet, back decorations, collar adornments and tape, lots of tape.  Apparently Benny is attention starved, because he sat there, still and patiently as Hudson "dolled" him up.
Amazing the entertainment that some pipe cleaners, Scotch tape, felt pieces, free time, creativity and a patient dog can provide.
