It is Fall Break here on the island. Hayden has the next seven school days off. We have no plans. The reality of that is depressing. But we are going to make the best of whatever "staycation" we can manage. Cutter has to work all week, but was given today off. I utilized his manpower and moral support by finally tackling a hike that has been tempting me:
Kailua's Pillbox Trail.
Parking was a beast. Especially since Cutter detests parallel parking and we got lost looking for the spot. Thankfully for us, the shame I felt from failing my first drivers test due to knocking over a parallel parking cone, was enough to inspire me to master the art of parallel parking. Pretty sure that is why he married me. Lucky dude.
Once we found a spot, we found the trail:
The views were worth it. Simply breathtaking!
Cutter and Hudson were hiking buddies.
Which is pretty much code for "Daddy carried Middle Duck."
...And was responsible for the many, many "rock in shoe" removal operations.
As you can tell from the back side of Hud's pants, there were also one or two "dirt in pants" removal operations.
Mommy was in charge of Mr. Magoo and the Sweet Potato Pie.
He was pretty motivated to navigate all the trail on his own. Which was fortunate for me, because Hadley was not so keen on staying in her ridiculously expensive baby carrier.
Beautiful world and beautiful baby who refuses to ride in her carrier.
Below is one of the coolest flowers I have ever seen. Must be a cactus flower of some sort?
This is the first Pillbox we came to. (And the one we turned around at.) A little WW2 history for you, the Pillboxes were constructed in 1942 as a means of protecting Bellows Airforce Station. The boys desperately wanted to climb in, but daddy said no. Probably a wise and very protective decision.
A kind and very adorable couple at the Pillbox took a Honeycutt family picture for us. One of our first family pictures in a long time. So, even though it is not my most flattering shot, I thought it was post-worthy. It's okay, you can laugh.
I have a thing with taking pictures of shadows. Wish I knew why.
Oh, wait.. 'cause it is COOL!
More of those uber cool cactus flowers.
(I Googled it. Apparently they are called Starfish Cactus Flower. Aptly named.)
Hudson and daddy made it carefully down the path.
And before we knew it, we were almost back to the perfectly parallel parked Baby Blue.
Another successful Adventure Day.
Which, to decode for you again, means "Mommy needs a nap."
