I found the perfect way to entertain my kids for a solid 7-9 minutes. Yeah, that IS a big deal, right? In seven to nine minutes of kid free time I can practically take over the world these days. Okay, well at least I can empty the dishwasher... as I said, a really big deal.
This Godsend shall henceforth be known as: Clue Hunting.
Directions (because I am all about sharing the love my friends):
1) Cut up some squares of paper. Or, if you really want to cut corners, just use Post-It's.
2) Draw some pictures of places in your house where you can hide the pieces of paper. These are the "clues." Examples include beds, fridges, bath tubs, shoes etc.
3) Number each picture.
Now, here comes the tricky part...
3) Hide the sheets of paper. The kids get Clue #1 right off the bat. So hide Clue #2 in the place that is depicted in clue #1. Clue #3 gets hid in the place depicted by Clue #2. And on and on., until all Clues are used up.
4) Hide a surprise where the final Clue leads.
Hints:
*A magnifying glass goes a long way in this game. If you are a super rad parent you could bust out some Sherlock Homes type hat and make things all sorts of authentic.
*If you can alternate Clues between upstairs and downstairs you have created an aerobic activity as well.
*Don't make the clues too hard, or else you will not get the 7-9 mins of dishwasher emptying, er, I mean world domination that I promised.
*Don't make the Clues too easy or you will be asked to repeat this activity with "more clues" immediately. Yet again taking away from the whole point of the game.
Finally,
*Don't overestimate your artistic abilities. Toilets are MUCH trickier to draw than you might imagine.
See?? Easy peasey.
You're welcome!
