Tooth Fairy

It happened.  The Tooth Fairy made her debut!  It was an exciting night (and early following morning).  It is a funny little story...

While Skyping with Uncle Nate and Auntie Jayme after Hayden's tooth removal, Uncle Nate, of course, suggested that Hayden try and "trap the Tooth Fairy."  Hayden, being eager to please his Uncle Nater, took on the challenge.  When Cutter came home from work he was eagerly enlisted by Hayden to help build aforementioned trap.  (You see, mommy being the vegan that she is, refuses to take part in the trapping of anything other than insects.)  A box and stick were found to make the trap.  A decoy tooth smeared in toothpaste was used as bait and set out to try and catch the glittery taker of teeth. The trap was set on the floor in their bedroom.

Before bed, to clarify any confusion, we read a story about how the Tooth Fairy began and learned 1) she is so tiny you can hardly see her (much less catch her), 2) that she takes the baby teeth and uses them to make stars in the fairy skies (actually sort of gross if you think about it with your grown up brain...) and 3) she brings money, that is it. (All over the internet there are ideas of toys that the Tooth Fairy can leave, and I am going to stay traditional, they get cash or coins, that is it!!!).  Well, Hayden, satisfied with the tale was tucked in with his baby teeth under his pillow and a declared his commitment to stay up and wait for the Tooth Fairy.

When the Tooth Fairly arrived, a mere 35 minutes later, both boys were fast asleep.  The fairy did have to pry his sweaty hands off of the teeth, as he was securely holding them under his pillow.  The exchange was made and the trap did go off, but the fairy was just too quick.

Mommy was waken at 5:55AM to Hayden and Hudson's excitement...
Hayden and Hudson:  "She came!"
Mommy:  "She did?  Did you catch her?"
Hayden:  "No, but we caught her for a little bit because she left behind fairy dust."  (glitter)
Mommy:  "Well, she is very tiny... I suppose catching her can be very tricky."

Hayden proudly showed me his glittery two dollar bills, his baby teeth receipt and a letter from the Tooth Fairy herself congratulating him on growing up into such a wonderful big boy.  We took some pictures of all the excitement for documentation (and the blog).

Then the tooth fairy got up and made coffee.

The Tooth Fairy's project.  Everything was painted with glitter glue from their Science Kits!

The cash and letter.

The baby teeth receipt.  (How fun for the baby book, right??)
