Doggie Paddle

In Colorado dogs are every man's best friend.  There are two dogs for every one human being in that state.  (I only slightly exaggerate.)  As a result of all the puppy love, there are some really fancy dog parks around.  We didn't realize how spoiled the dogs were until we discovered that the dog park Grandma found for Benny and Gus in our new neighborhood here on Oahu can't even begin to compare to the dog parks in CO.  (Actually, the dog park we have in our new neighborhood can't even compare to our old back yard.)

Needless to say, Benny and Gus have been itching to run free.  Based on Hickam AFB's rather pathetic rendition of a dog park, I wasn't too excited when I heard from the neighbor that there is also a dog beach somewhere on base.  But, my curiosity was peaked and we decided to use a lazy Saturday afternoon to check it out.  Cutter said he knew the spot, so off we went.  All seven of us in Baby Blue.

WOAH!
Check it out...
Doggie Heaven...
A boy and his dog.

The sandbar where all the dogs congregate and play.

Convincing Gus to go out deeper.

All my boys.

Wait a second... that's not a puppy!
"Mom, I am done now.  Help me, please?" -Gus

So, Hawaii's specialty isn't the dog PARK.  It is the dog BEACH!!!  There were about 15 other dogs out there, all running around on the sand bar and in the ankle deep ocean water.  It really was a dog party straight out of the Go Dog Go, Dr. Seuss book that Hayden and Grandma love.  There were big dogs, little dogs, dogs with long hair, curly hair and brown hair.  Dogs swimming, dogs running, dogs rolling in sand.  There were even dogs with life jackets.  (I wish I would have gotten a picture of them, because they were really quite cute!)

Benny and Gus (and Hayden and Hudson) played on the sand bar for almost an hour.  Then Cutter took Gus out to some deeper water and Gus, with his little, really too short for swimming legs, swam for about ten yards.  Then he swam up to me with eyes that pleaded... "please can we go home?  I am dog tired!".
So home we went.
...and then I celebrated Dave and Tashie and LOVE with a drink!
Cheers to my brother and soon to be sister in law!  I love you both and couldn't be more excited for you!
